Over the course of running a business, you’ll face countless decisions where you can go one way or another. Examples:
- Industry you choose to work in
- Product or service you take to market
- Who you partner with
- Which outreach method to do
These are just the beginning of the continual tradeoffs you’ll have to make as a business owner. One key lesson I’ve learnt is that these decisions are rarely if ever perfect. There’s always a better way, a better industry, a better route to market.
However, what’s become clear to me is this: you have to make imperfect decisions anyway and do the best you can with them.
Why? Because once a decision is made, you can evaluate it. If it turns out to be a success, you know to keep going down that path. If it’s a failure, you can learn from it, try again, or pivot. If it lands somewhere in between, you can make tweaks and observe the results.
But if you get caught up in overanalysing every choice, you’ll go nowhere. That’s why it’s so important to make imperfect decisions and keep moving forward.
