Choose a business to start that matches your strengths

I made the mistake of picking companies that sounded great but didn’t suit me. I changed my ideas again and again over the last three months because of this. Below are the ideas I tried (and didn’t work):

  • Automating sales for SaaS companies
  • Automating sales for recruiters
  • Automations for government subcontractors
  • Partnering with an MSP to provide automation solutions for construction firms as an added service.

There are many reasons why these ideas didn’t work, but the main one was founder-market fit. I didn’t believe I could deliver these solutions for the customers, so I changed my idea.

The next idea I’ve had is different. It is in Cyber Security, an industry in which I’ve worked for years, so I have founder-market fit.

Everything has got easier since I chose a company that matches my knowledge. I can now easily have sales conversations and provide value. I also know the market and where the gaps are.

There are so many benefits to picking a company that works for you. It’s my first business, so I want to make it as easy as possible to succeed. Picking a market you have experience in helps hugely, and you need to give yourself the best chance you can.
